In this project, students will apply their knowledge in marketing and international business to help your organization seize a global or domestic marketing opportunity, develop a strategic marketing plan, or solve a current marketing challenge.
Would you like a deeper understanding of how your competitors appeal to consumers & potential customers in your market – and how your offering(s) sits within the range of consumer appeals in this category? Gain insights from students as teams identify/analyze the key consumer wants & needs that the offerings in your category meet, reveal how your competitors attract and keep customers, and propose how this knowledge can be used to build your business.
Upon completion of the project, you will receive a detailed report and presentation.
Learners
Final deliverables can include:
1) An analysis identifying where competitor’s product offerings meets the needs of your product category users
2) An analysis of advertisements, web site information and promo materials including:
- What needs they address
- How they expect consumers to learn about their product
- How they generate attention for their product or message
- What types of appeals they make
3) An overview of how each brand uses consumer concepts (where relevant) such as:
- Consumer Personality, Lifestyles, Values
- Demographics
- Consumer Decision Making
- Culture
4) Recommendations on ways to effectively appeal to consumers and/or gain competitive advantage against your competitors via your understanding of consumer-based insights.
Other suggested deliverables:
Students will submit a detailed report including their research, analysis, insights, and recommendations. Students will also submit a pdf slide deck summarizing their key findings and recommendations to share with your employees.

Requirements
Student-consultants in groups of 3 or 4 can develop a competitive analysis of your product or service based on how each key competitor in your market-place addresses consumer needs and wants.
Our students are able to work with and help develop the organization in the following ways:
- Customer discovery and segment analysis (both existing and potential customers; examining the customer experience)
- Idea prototyping and validation
- Go-to-market and strategy development
- Competitive landscape assessment (company and product level)
- Pricing analysis (willingness to pay, competitive pricing)
- Trend analysis (demographic, technology, social, economic, legal/regulatory, etc.)
To accomplish this work, students can:
- Conduct an initial meeting with your organization to determine the scope of the project and your key areas of interest
- Work as a group to develop a detailed report for your organization.
- Deliver the final report to your organization
